Sequence Strike
A downloadable game for Windows
Sequence Strike takes the turn-based combat you love from favorites like Final Fantasy and fuses it with the card-driven strategy of games like Slay the Spire — then puts its own twist on both.
All you have to do is drag your cards from your hand to the board and press "Fight!"
Every turn is a puzzle. Your opponent lays down 5 action cards and you choose to play your own hand, or queue to answer it. Then both sides resolve simultaneously, pure strategy clashing in real time.
Read their hand. Counter their plays. Exploit the openings they didn't know they left.
The deeper you fight, the harder it gets. Early rounds let you see what's coming, but as the battle progresses, your opponent's cards get hidden and their moves hit harder. What started as a chess match becomes a high-stakes guessing game where every slot in your queue matters.
8 card types. magic, counters, knockdowns, blocks, and more. Simple to pick up, but the decision space gets deep fast.
This is a working combat loop, beyond this it may be an RPG or a rogue like, can kinda take it anywhere from here.
What's in this build:
- Progressive difficulty that hides information and ramps pressure
- Animated 3D combat with VFX, damage numbers, and hit reactions
- Drag-and-drop card queue
Solo-dev prototype. The core loop is here and it feels okay. Feedback welcome.
A few new things I did for the first time:
- Cloth & Hair Physics
- More intricate use of SFX
- Using Models
- Using video for "big" attacks, was pretty cool, like Summons in FF
